Here's the remainder of our guide to some of the new cars that have already appeared, or are still due to appear in 2006. This page also includes links to the new cars of 2007, 2008 and later.
The new Discovery was released towards the end of 2006 and puts the Land Rover back at the top of its 4x4 sector. The outgoing car was a great vehicle, but over the years more and more manufacturers have released equivalent vehicles. Honda's new CRV was a particular threat to the Discovery, but the new Land Rover does just about enough to put it back at the top of the pile except in terms of economy where the CRV retains the upper hand. Land Rover have introduced a scheme whereby you can pay 85 to have them plant some trees for you if you feel the need to salve your conscience.
The Lexus IS range gets a complete redesign this year, together with a new range of model numbers to go with the larger engine sizes. Although the limited range of engine sizes available on the old IS200/300 model prevented sales being anything like those of BMW's 3 series, the IS was incredibly popular with its owners who helped it to win numerous satisfaction surveys. Lexus will hope that the new IS250 can be an even bigger success.
2006 also saw the launch of a number of new Hybrid cars from Lexus including the Rx400h Hybrid SUV, and the LS450h Hybrid executive car. Toyota clearly feel that hybrids are the way they can extend their share of the executive market, and it seems they are probably correct in this belief.
In addition to all of the above, Lexus will introduce the new LS460 at the end of 2006 or start of 2007. Of course the new top of the range model will be even more luxurious than ever.
November 2006 saw the release of the Mazda MX-5 CC - the Mazda convertible that many were waiting for. Over the years the MX5 has been the most popular small sports car, and its recent update was greeted with popular acclaim. But these days many buyers are looking for a Convertible Coupe rather than a rag top and most manufacturers have gone one way or the other. But Mazda have cleverly released the traditional convertible that will appeal to true sports car fans, and now follow that up with a CC version to tempt more buyers into the convertible market. The new CC looks just as good as the regular version, though it costs rather more, and is a deal heavier. If you want that extra practicality of a hard top / open car combination, it's money well spent.

The M15 is due before the end of 2006 and expect to notice it when you see one. The styling of the new performance car from Noble is fantastic and we think this will be enough to see the car selling in larger numbers than previous Nobles have done.
The Subaru Tribecca could make its way into the UK. Already in sale in other countries, including America, the SUV could make an appearance in the UK in 2006.
New Grand Vitara LWB priced at under 20,000 (we believe) will feature a 2.7 litre V6 engine offering over 180 bhp. Could fill a gap in the market between the small and larger off roaders at that price. Though whether the world needs that gap filling is in doubt!
The first off road 4x4 from a company who are renowned for their road going four wheel drive vehicles hits the UK roads in November 2006. Like so many new Subarus, the styling isn't to everyone's taste, but there will be no doubting the capabilities of the new B9 Tribeca. Whether it does enough to sell in large numbers in this sector remains to be seen.
Rumours that Toyota will Axe the MR2 and Celica in 2006 continue. We hope not as there don't seem to be any firm sightings of the proposed replacement which is expected to be a convertible coupe featuring the best technology of both models. We're looking forward to the replacement, but nobody wants to see the back of the MR2 or Celica until the new car is available.
The successful Yaris supermini receives a major update in 2006, and the indications are that Toyota have got this important release just right; for a number of years the Yaris has been incredibly popular, and has encouraged many new drivers to join the Toyota fold; continuing that success was vital to Toyota.
Toyota's best selling car, the Corolla will receive an update and a name change soon; the new model called the Auris will be released towards the end of 2006 or early in 2007
Volkswagen Fox - February 2006. Brazilian built super mini to compete with Toyota Aygo Citroen C1.
