Pictures of Fast Cars

Here are pictures of a few of the worlds fastest production cars.  The AC Shelby Cobra used massive American Muscle power combined with a light frame to produce a car that was blisteringly quick in its day, and in fact still pretty fast even by today's standards.  However, even the mighty Cobra isn't as quick as the best offerings from Germany and Italy.  Today's Porsche Carrera GT and the Ferrari Enzo both make the best use of modern materials to produce sub 4 second 0-60 times.  Both have over 600 bhp on tap from their high tech 6 litre engines.  The Europeans don't have it all their own way though - Ford's GT has a 5 litre engine that can produce around 500bhp which is enough to give it too a top speed of over 200 mph, with 0-60 taking around 4 seconds.  On paper there's not a great deal between these modern supercars, except that the Ford GT costs less than half the price of the Ferrari and the Porsche.  Not that you can buy any of them anyway - despite the fact that even the Ford costs 100,000 the demand has exceeded supply by many times.

AC COBRA

AC Cobra - one of our favourites!
AC (Shelby) Cobra

Fitted with a range of different engines in its long lifetime, all variants of the Cobra are fast car by any standards.  First produced around 1962, the car was blisteringly quick compared to the competition of the day.

The first Cobra was built in the UK and then had a 4.2 litre Ford Engine fitted in the USA by designer Carroll Shelby.  Over the years, even larger Ford engines were added to the range, despite the fact that the original was pretty quick.  The Cobra was so quick in its day that it is believed to have been at least partly responsible for the introduction of the 70 mph speed limit on British Motorways.

Carrera GT Key Specifications

The Carrera GT is fast by almost any standards, with a top speed of a 205mph which thanks to a powerful 5733cc engine.  The 604 horse power enable the 323,000 super car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just under 4 seconds.  But more importantly, the Carrera has handling to match or better any other car on the roads today, including Ferrari's Enzo, and the awesome McLarens - the F1 and the more recent Mercedes McLaren.

Ferrari Enzo

The Ferrari Enzo specification includes a 5998 cc engine which can produce around 650 bhp, which in theory makes the car capable of 0-60 in around 3.3 seconds and a top speed of around 220.

FORD GT

Specification

GT 0-60 3.7 Seconds

GT Top Speed > 200 mph

Torque - 500lb ft @ 4,500 rpm

Ford GT Details and Pictures

For all these supercars, performance figures vary enormously according to tyres, weather conditions, track temperature, driver skill etc, etc;  their performance is so huge that the limiting factor is how much power the driver can put down on the road, rather than any lack of power from the car.
