The Ford Fiesta is one of the longest running names in the UK Ford catalogue. Escort gave way to Focus, Sierra to Mondeo, but the Fiesta carries on regardless through countless revisions. This is a car that once had the XR2 bad boy image running alongside its sensible 1.1 or 950 alternative, but which has now grown up to become one of the very best small cars on the market.
The latest Fiestas have adopted a Focus like styling which makes them look bigger than they are, and we think they benefit from that. In a sector that is very competitive with Nissans, Peugeots, Toyotas and Renaults hotly contesting the top spot, the Fiesta had to be good to maintain Ford's reputation. And good it is.
To maintain sales, Ford have introduced variations such as the Finesse which you can put on the road for as little as 8,415. A bargain for a quality motor car from Ford. Even the well appointed Ghia costs only a fraction over ten and a half thousand pounds, and for that you get all the luxury you need, including air conditioning, a stereo CD / Radio and features such as the quick clear windscreen that was once reserved for the top end Focus and Mondeo models.
The Focus also offers the option of 1.4i petrol, 1.4 diesel, 1.6i petrol engines and the Durashift EST system
Other varations include the Fiesta Flame, Fiesta Black, Fiesta Silver, the Zetec, LX and BodyStyle, all of which are worth checking out. Once upon a time there were a limited number of levels and you had to pay through the nose for the options you wanted - in fact some manufacturers still work that way today. With Ford you find the car best suited to your needs, and may then have no need to specify any options at all. That can't be good for the car maker's bottom line, but it's great news for the consumer.
We've always had respect for the baby ford, and its current incarnation is no exception. Expect to get slightly better residuals from a Mini, but expect a much longer waiting list, and a very expensive list of essential 'options' from the BMW car; On the whole, if you want a good package at a great price, the Fiesta takes some beating.
Note - Manufacturer's specifications can change.
