Mission to Reduce Emissions

Helen Bartle, who is the first officer employed by the Council to deal specifically with climate change issues, will produce a plan that will aim to cut the Council's carbon emissions by around a third in the next three years.
Projects will include introducing energy efficient lighting, improving insulation in buildings, and installing renewable technologies such as ground source heating at the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre.
A campaign will be launched in the summer to raise awareness of climate change and inform residents and businesses of ways they can reduce energy use and increase efficiency.
Helen, who was previously a Waste Management Development Officer at Derbyshire County Council and an assistant manager at a recycling company in Doncaster, will review staff travel to help reduce transport-related emissions.
Projects will include promoting cycling, the use of public transport and car sharing.
Mansfield District Council's Executive Mayor, Tony Egginton said: "This is a very exciting new post at the Council, which will help us save a substantial amount of Council taxpayers' money, reduce energy use and increase efficiency across all of the Council's sites and services.
"We look forward to working with residents and businesses throughout the district to tackle climate change and to help protect the environment."
Helen added: "It's amazing how much has been achieved so far to reduce carbon emissions and save money, but we still have a lot to do to reduce energy use and increase efficiency across all of the Council's sites and services."
"I'm really looking forward to starting working with residents and businesses throughout the district to tackle climate change and to help protect the environment."
Save Fuel and Cut Emissions
As well as avoiding unnecessary journeys, motorists can reduce their carbon footprint and fuel bills by adopting a smoother driving style. A recent Mansfield Group of Advanced Motorists survey has shown that this is one of the key reasons for increased public interest in Advanced Driving. This brief fuel saving guide from the IAM offers a few basic tips, but you find out much more by visiting us at one of our guidance sessions; see Diary page for details of these.
